| A beautiful
Manor House with extensive gardens and views to the sea.
Standing
above the valley of Polperro and surrounded by National
Trust Land.
8 beds
all with their own facilities.
"Having the run of an institution gave the week
a pleasing anarchic edge..........a game of sardines could
last an hour with children scurrying through the arched
doorways to peer under grand pianos and snooker tables in
search of relations"
The Observer Travel Review.
Surroundings
The house is built
of Cornish stone and is beautifully situated on the hill
to the west side of the ancient and picturesque fishing
port of Polperro with its restaurants and historical public
houses. The village is renowned for its quaint narrow lanes and
whitewashed cottages and still retains its olde world charm.
The coastal walks in both directions are breathtaking.
The Manor is set in peaceful grounds of 2 acres
and commands beautiful views to the sea and surrounding
countryside. The gardens feature an interesting and wide
variety of shrubs, plants and trees which are surrounded
by National Trust Land. Outdoor seating and a barbeque are
provided. The summer house with BBQ and outdoor seating is the ideal location to take in the views of the surrounding countryside and makes an ideal changing room for the large Hot tub.

There
are 6 double bedrooms and 2 twin rooms all individually furnished,
many with antique furniture. All have an ensuite or own
shower room, plus televisions. One of the double rooms with
ensuite is situated on the ground level for easy access

The History
Landaviddy Manor was built in the mid to late 18th century
by Richard Foster, banker of Liskeard and magistrate and
wealthy land owner.
The estate of ‘Landivedda’ was only a miniscule
part of the land bequeathed by Thomas Robins in 1844 to
his two daughters, whose land holding was
a collection of large farms. This estate at that time was
indeed a very large part of the Lansallos Parish. According
to the 1861 census there were two farms called ‘Landivedda’.
These, Raphael Farm (Rathwell), Holes Ground and all
the other surrounding farms on their land were under lease.
Their land also included a large quantity of surrounding
mineral mines.
We know Foster built Landaviddy Manor between approximately 1861- 1871
as this is stated in Couch’s history of Polperro,
but we do not know his intention as he and his family never
lived there but stayed in his ancestral home of Lanwithan
in St Minnow. The house was eventually passed to Rev Gerald
Foster.
